Fun to be had here(Review From Amazon) | General Comments: My kids had to have this game, and I admit, I was a little apprehensive. Then I figured that with the included controller, we would only be paying 8 bucks for the game. It's worth every bit of that. That really doesn't sound much like an endorsement, but all in all the package as a whole is pretty good. The Ping Pong is super boring. I haven't figured out how hitting that ball back and forth could be fun. On Wiisports, Tennis, just works, but here, it's really more like a minigame off of Warioware. The Duckhunt inspired, target game is really really good. I loved that. And the Combatlike, Tank, game is great. There are some other gems that round out the selections. All in all, there is some great fun to be had. I figured that there would be a dog here or there, thankfully they are the exception and not the rule. If you are looking for a new controller, and want to get something a little extra with it, you can't miss with Wiiplay. I have noticed that the more people you have playing with you, the better the game gets. Definately a party game. |

Simple and Short - But Certainly Made Me Smile!(Review From Amazon) | General Comments: While I certainly would not have shelled out $50 for wii play without the remote, for the $10 above the cost of a wiimote, this game is a great novelty and really demonstrates the innovative nature of the wii and gets me excited for for the future.
This arrived today at work from Amazon - and I played it on my 1 hour lunch break at home - which was ample time to try each game and go round too on the shooting.
I do think overall it is fun and stands on its own. The key to the game is to have enough miis made. Finding my sister, wife, and mom in find mii was pretty funny. Watching them dance around the title screen is pretty amusing as well.
Here are my quick thoughts on each game:
1. Shooting - Short - but lots of fun. Definitely repeatable.
2. Find Mii - actually pretty clever - you start finding people yielding a flashlight in a dark room after a few rounds. Definitely better if you have created some miis.
3. Ping Pong - not much fun in my opinion - a little overly simplistic
4. Air Hockey - Actually kind of fun - strong nostalgia factor a la atari pong
5. Bubble Burst - I does hurt your wrist a bit, but very different from any game I have ever played - looking forward to 2 player here
6. Billiards - Probably the most challenging - I think it will have a longer lifespan than the others
7. Cow Riding - By far the zaniest, the controls are really unique and engaging
8. Tank - Lots of Atari Nostalgia. Could definitely see myself playing this one more
9. Fishing - pretty lame - If you have Zelda: Twilight princess - you will see what fishing on the Wii should really be like! |

If you need an extra remote, this might be a good buy, otherwise ...(Review From Amazon) | General Comments: My opinion is influenced by the overall quality of Wii Sports (though I wish the baseball game would last longer than 3 innings and boxing would go longer than 3 rounds), but Wii Play was really a disappointment. The only games I found of personal interest was 9 Ball and the Tank game (to a lessor extent). Ping Pong can probably be a bit of a challenge, but it doesn't really operate in the manner that a real ping pong game would (as far as I can tell, you can never 'beat' the computer).
I'm sure some of the other games will have some appeal to other individuals (the target shooting game will probably be the next most appealing game), but overall I can't help but feel Wii Play is a waste of time.
It was worth the purchase to get the extra controller and have access to the 9-ball game, but JUST barely.
Seriously ... don't be skeptical of these reviews that are critical of this game. Unless you are buying the game for a very young child (who might enjoy the cow race or the bubble thing), then you're probably better off just skipping it (with the exception being if you desperately need an extra controller). |
